Report: Uwe Baldes / Photos: MAC Adenau
XRAY has won another two German Championships. At the open 12th scale German Nationals which were held on the so-called ‶Eifel-Ring※ at Leimbach next to the famous Nuerburgring, Jan Rettke captured the title in the 1/12 standard class (10.5T blinky) with his XRAY X12. Jacques Libar from Luxembourg became vice champion and made it a one-two for XRAY. The second title went to XRAY racer Sven Heinen who was crowned as German Youth Champion (below 18).

The organizing MAC Adenau and race director Uwe Baldes who hosted the XRAY Challenge Germany exactly one year ago, presented an unexpected number of 70 participants, twice as much as have attended at the 2014 Nats. This German Championship impressed with exciting 12th scale racing, great atmosphere and an exemplary organization.

Some weeks before the Nats local hero Jan Rettke, a regular 1/10 touring car racer, did a few laps with the XRAY X12 of Jens Schaefer, his buddy at his club MAC Adenau. It was just for fun but Rettke enjoyed it a lot. So finally Schaefer rented his 2014 X12 to Rettke who following some pre-event test sessions showed an extraordinary performance right from the start of this national highlight. Starting on Friday Rettke was at the front of the ranking nearly all the time except qualifying when he made it ‶only※ to third position. In the first A main he was a victim of a first-lap jumble, dropped back to last but fought back to fourth position. Following his fine win in the second A main, the third final had to bring the decision. In the first part of the eight minutes race pole setter Kai Altmann was leading but made a driving error in lap 17. So Libar took over the lead with Rettke very close at his tail. Finally Jacques Libar brought this victory home to become vice champion but second place was enough for the 20 year old Jan Rettke to win his first major title – not to forget, with a rental 2014 XRAY X12.

Beside Rettke and Libar two more XRAY drivers made it to the A main. Sascha Freitag came on fifth and Thomas Krause on eighth position in the final ranking. Furthermore, victories in the D and G mains went to XRAY racers Markus Ernst respectively Stephan Kipke. In the E final Sven Heinen finished second with his X12 but that was enough to celebrate the title as youth champion.

David Ranft became vice champion in the 40-plus category of the standard class while Hartmut Rose caught third step on the podium in the 40-plus ranking of the Expert class (modified).

A total of 22 X12 racers – that gave the largest market share to XRAY – enjoyed a perfect support by RC-Kleinkram (Stefan Klein) and also Bertram Kessler, Mischa Kessler and Anke Mueller of German XRAY/HUDY importer SMI Motorsport were present to give a hand to the participants.

Final results:
1. Jan Rettke – XRAY
2. Jacques Libar – XRAY

3. Kai Altmann
4. Joey Sorber
5. Sascha Freitag – XRAY
6. Bernd Wiesenberger
7. Dai Sakaguchi
8. Thomas Krause – XRAY
